Home / L-Tryptophan, 500 Mg, 90 Vegetarian Capsules, 5-pack (100147)
Tryptophan is an essential amino acid and a precursor of serotonin, a neurotransmitter that is associated with positive mood, relaxation and restful sleep. Adequate supplies of tryptophan are required to ensure optimum serotonin levels.
A number of studies have shown tryptophan to enhance mood, alleviate depressive symptoms, improve sleep and relieve stress. Consuming purified tryptophan increases brain serotonin whereas eating foods containing tryptophan does not.
This formula is based on premium L-tryptophan, which has undergone close monitoring and more rigorous manufacturing processes than ordinary tryptophan material to ensure highest purity and safety.
For maximum absorption, the tryptophan capsules should be taken with a small amount of carbohydrate, such as diluted fruit juice.
The tryptophan capsules are best taken separately from protein or amino acids.
Consult your doctor before taking this product if you are taking ANY prescription medications (e.g. MAOI and SSRI antidepressants) for depression, or any other prescription drugs as there are many tryptophan interactions that can give severe side effects. Taking L-tryptophan capsules at the same time as antidepressant medications has the potential to increase the risk of serotonin syndrome, which is characterised by high serotonin levels and symptoms such as confusion, sweating, agitation, nausea, involuntary muscle contractions and a racing heartbeat.
Do not use L-tryptophan before driving or operating heavy machinery.
